Dr. Peter Michael ALLENSPACH
Where are you from? Frauenfeld (Switzerland)
Some personal data... your hobbies?
I did a lot of track and fields in the past, but today I'm only active as a starter. I'm responsible for all starters and their education and assignment to the different track and field events for Eastern and Northern Switzerland (one of the three Swiss regions). I'm also a member of the starter team of The Golden League meeting "Weltklasse Zurich" . My active sport is sailing mostly together with my son on our 505 racing-dinghy.

Swiss Neutronics |
Peter the entrepreneur
He was co-founder of SwissNeutronics and since 1999 he is board member of the company.
SwissNeutronics was founded in 1999 as a spin-off company of the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) in Villigen, Switzerland. The main field of activity of SwissNeutronics lies in the field of optical equipment for neutron and synchrotron sources, but they also serve industry customers in need of specially designed coatings. |

Working for the European users community
From 1997 - 2002 Peter Allenspach was Assistant Secretary of ENSA. ENSA, the European Neutron Scattering Association, is an affiliation of the national neutron scattering societies which directly represent neutron beam users.
Since 2002, he is the Swiss delegate representing the Swiss user community within the European association. |

Designing the European Spallation Source
As member of the Instrumentation Working Group of the European Spallation Source (ESS) Peter Allenspach contributed to the development of new instrumentation concepts for the most powerful neutron source ever projected. He worked on the performance of "indirect geometry spectrometers". |
Swiss Society for Neutron Scattering |
Working for the Swiss Neutron user community
Since 2004 he is the President of the Swiss Society for Neutron Scattering (SGN/SSDN), one of the representatives of the neutron scatterers in Switzerland. They work on:
- advancement of neutron scattering
- support of young scientists
- exchange of scientific ideas
- cultivation of interdisciplinary relations
- relations to international associations
- support of optimum access to national and international neutron sources |
