The directorate managed all technical and science work for ESS, as well as support in publicity, external presentation and other areas relevant to ESS.
It supervised the task leaders and the Central Project Team, represented ESS and its Council whenever the technical and science aspects were paramount and within its area of responsibility. It also co-ordinated the collaboration of ESS with other projects.
