The Executive Committee was responsible for supervising ongoing work on behalf of the Council in between council meetings and for the co-ordination between policy and council aspects, and technical and science aspects
Its members presented the ESS project to the outside world. It consisted of the chairperson and the secretary of the Council, and of the members of the Project Directorate.
