Today's science is tomorrow's technology. The search with neutrons serves first of all to expand our knowledge. To give some examples, the ESS will:
- Unravel the complex self organisation behaviour of synthetic and biological molecules which is a key for templating nano structures.
- Explore the mechanisms of biomineralisation enabling us to mimic nature in creating new materials.
- Probe the unsolved mysteries of quantum mechanical tunneling states in glassy materials.
- Underpin structure-based drug design and reveal the crucial catalytic hydrogen position in biological molecules.
- Address fundamental questions of particle physics and cosmology such as the origin of matter anti matter asymmetry and the validity of grand unification.
