Post doc for simulations of neutron instruments and -science

We seek one post doc at the X-ray and neutron scattering group at the Nanoscience Center, Niels Bohr Institute. The research in this group deals with the structure and dynamic of materials, including the instrumentation necessary for these studies.

The successful applicant will enter the project team, which develops the program package McStas, for simulations of all types of neutron scattering. The tasks will be to continue the physical description of neutron scattering and neutron instrumentation. The program will be tested against calculations and real experiments. There will also be possibilities for conducting independent scientific research.

Particular tasks of interest to the McStas project are
 Simulation of complex neutron-optical components
 Simulation of spin-polarized neutrons
 Description and simulation of realistic scattering samples
 Use of McStas to elucidate the performance of neutron instruments
 Development of McStas as a teaching tool

The position is open from 1 Juny 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is initially for 2 years, with a possibility for extension, depending upon available funds. Enquiries about the position can be made to
Kim Lefmann, Associate Professor, tel. +45 3532 0476 lefmann@fys.ku.dk.

Applicants must have a background in physics, chemistry, computer science, or similar. Appointment requires a Ph.D. degree or corresponding scientific qualifications. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State (www.perst.dk/db/filarkiv/12811/004-06.pdf).

Applications must be in English, and should contain:
 Curriculum vitae (with applicants e-mail address & telephone number)
 Description (max. 5 pages) of relevant background, national or international experience, and motivation for choosing this research project.
 Documentation of possible teaching experience and other qualifications
 Full contact details (Name, address, telephone & email) of 2 professional references
 Complete publication list
Applications are preferably submitted by e-mail and should contain the above information as a single pdf file. Applications should be sent to the leader of the McStas project in NMI3: Kim Lefmann lefmann@fys.ku.dk . The deadline for applications is 29 May 2009, at noon local Danish time. Applications received thereafter will not be considered.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

The McStas project is supported by EU through NMI3 (see http://neutron-eu.net) and other sources and comprises KU-Science, Risų-DTU, and ILL (Grenoble).
