NMI3 carries out foresight studies to identify the future directions of neutron scattering and muon spectroscopy. The reports emanating from this activity are considered important guidelines for the consortium partners when developing their infrastructure. They are equally important documents when communicating with political bodies or the broader public.
NMI3 wishes a vast implication of users in these studies. A strong international involvement is equally desirable at a time when new neutron sources are being built all over the world.
NMI3 is receptive to proposals from interested scientists (Please contact Helmut Schober or Ana Claver for additional information).

NEF Neutrons and Energy for the Future (in close collaboration with the Joint Institute of Neutron Scattering in the US -JINS)
This study was an outcome of the workshop Neutrons and Energy for the Future held successfully in Washington 4–5 June 2004.
If you want to have a glance of how neutrons can contribute in the development of the key energy research areas (H2 storage, fuel cells, batteries, solar cells, energy recovery in oil production...), see the CONTENT SUMMARY: an overview of what was told at the workshop "Neutrons and Energy for the Future" in Washington.
If you want to know more about this workshop visit the official page of the workshop Neutrons and Energy for the Future on the ORNL webpage.
