The timescale for planning and development of new neutron scattering/muon spectroscopy facilities is at least a decade and the cost is considerable. New instruments take several years to build and are used for 10-15 years. Planning for these takes place while the surrounding „scientific landscape‟ is continuously changing, due to new techniques, new discoveries and new societal demands. It is therefore vital that development opportunities and plans and the associated scientific cases are continuously updated.
Several of these have been organised on an international basis and agreement has been reached with Springer to publish a series of books mainly based on these meetings.
