Schools & Workshops

Dissemination and training actions will help to enhance and to structure future generations of users.
NMI3 support training activities such as workshops, schools and training courses. These activities
should clearly aim to broaden the user base or make the use of facilities more effective.

THIRD CALL for PROPOSALS UNDER FP7
Online proposal system is open from 13/01/2010 until 19/02/2010
This call for proposals is the third call under FP7 and relates to applications covering the period from June 2010 – January 2011.
The next Call for Proposals, for events to be held from January 2011 to June 2011, will be announced in June 2010.

IIf you are planning to organize activities that relate to spreading the use of neutron scattering or muon spectroscopy you are welcomed to submit your proposal until the 19th February 2010

Support:
• Schools on neutron scattering and/or muon spectroscopy.
• Workshops to improve neutron and muon techniques and methods.

Please note that, due to the more limited funds that are available to the NMI3 in FP7, we are strongly preferring to support schools on neutron scattering or muon spectroscopy which are designed to train researchers in the use of neutrons and muons. Workshops on science or instrumentation topics related to neutrons and muons are only being supported if there are funds remaining after support for schools has been allocated.

To submit your proposal use the Online Proposal Submission System:

OPEN NOW!

Applying for funds - Conditions
Open calls for proposals for training activities will be made every six months.
Every proposal round has a predefined deadline. Proposals will be evaluated by an appropriate panel of specialists. The proposition of the panel is presented to the NMI3 board for approval. Acceptance of financial support from Networking Activities implies acceptance of the obligation to provide reports and annex documents as required by the rules of NMI3.

ACTIVITY SCOPE WHAT CAN BE SUPPORTED WHO CAN APPLY SIZE OF GRANTS
Schools
To be carried out by NMI3, a school has to be clearly related to the goals of Networking Activities.
The education of the participants in the techniques of neutron scattering and/or muon spectroscopy has to occupy a central position within the programme.
The language should preferentially be English. Schools in other languages may be supported if properly motivated.
NMI3 does not support regular international or national meetings (unless it is clear that the purpose involves training activities). Language should be English. You should not apply for general meeting costs.
Schools open to non-national participation. The funding can be used to cover expenses for non-national European participants (only will support students and postdocs attending the schools). You should not apply for general workshop costs.
The organizer of the school, who will administer the grant

2.000-10.000 Euro
No more than 50% of the cost will be covered by NMI3
Workshops
Workshops must address topics relevant to Networking Activities, i.e. they have to contribute to the development of neutron scattering and or muon spectroscopy.
Events may aim either for improvements in techniques and methods or at the scientific case. NMI3 cannot support general conferences where neutron scattering or muon spectroscopy is not the main topic. Not supporting regular international or national meetings (only if it is clear that the purpose involves training activities). Language should be English.

Expenses for European non-national participants and lecturers. Not aplying for general workshop costs. Priority is given to support for participants.
The organizer of the workshop, who will administer the grant
4.000 - 10.000 Euro
No more than 50% of the cost will be covered by NMI3
Foresight Studies
Ideas for Foresight Studies, to be carry out by NMI3, are welcome
Foresight studies will be coordinated directly by NMI3. The study must address the future evolution (sources, techniques and methods, scientific case) of neutron scattering and/or muon spectroscopy.
Expenses for participants plus general costs

NMI3 networking coordinator
10.000 - 30.000 Euro
NMI3 will cover whole or part of the cost
